Awards show will raise awareness of the organization’s mission and kids including Valeska Ruda, who is at risk of losing her eyesight.
(Miami, December 11, 2007) – For the fifth year in a row, the International Kids Fund (IKF), a philanthropic program of the Jackson Memorial Foundation, has been chosen among the official charities of Premios Fox Sports presented by DHL. The fifth annual one-of-a-kind event, will take place December 12 at The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami Beach. During the star-studded event a select group of IKF’s kids will walk the yellow carpet alongside some of the most recognized names in the world of sports. Through this partnership, the awards show will help raise awareness of the life changing medical treatment the organization provides children from around the world, such as Valeska Ruda.
Valeska was born with Congenital Rubella Syndrome which caused her to have cataracts in both eyes. After undergoing in her native country of Peru cataract surgery and intraocular lens implants in both eyes, the child’s condition worsened causing her to lose eyesight in her right eye. She now needs a surgery that would prevent her from losing vision in her left eye.
“We are tremendously proud to partner once again with the International Kids Fund, an organization that we hold very dear to our hearts,” said Patrick Ilabaca, vice president of event marketing for Fox Pan American Sports. “Just as Premios Fox Sports has risen to new heights over the past five years, the IKF continues to expand its reach and deliver much needed funds and services to families that otherwise would have nowhere to turn for assistance.”
The fifth annual Premios Fox Sports presented by DHL recognizes the achievements of top US Hispanic and Latin American soccer, baseball, basketball, boxing, motor sports, tennis and golf athletes. This awards program is the only one of its kind highlighting the contributions and accomplishments of Hispanic athletes and personalities from the world of sports both on and off the field. The show is scheduled to be broadcasted on December, 16, 2007 in the United States on Fox Sports en Español and throughout the Spanish-speaking Americas on Fox Sports Latin America.
The International Kids Fund (IKF) is a program of the Jackson Memorial Foundation whose mission it is to provide medical care at Holtz Children’s Hospital to needy children from around the world who suffer from serious illnesses that cannot be treated in their home countries.
“It is a real honor for the International Kids Fund to have Fox Pan American Sports and Premios Fox Sports choose us among their charities of choice for the fifth consecutive year,” said Jorge Ortega, Chairman of the IKF Board of Directors. “This partnership has helped us garner awareness nationwide and throughout Latin America of our mission to help children from around the globe receive life-changing medical treatment.”
