As the charismatic host of Univision’s Sábado Gigante (Giant Saturday), the longest running program in history, television personality Don Francisco has become an international icon revered by millions across the globe.
Born Mario Kreutzberger in Chile to Jewish immigrants who escaped Germany prior to World War II, he was hosting his own show by the age of 21. Today, the show reaches millions of viewers in more than 30 countries.
Since 1962, Sábado Gigante has served as a platform that not only launched the careers of countless Latin stars, but also fueled the tremendous success of Spanish-language television in the United States.
While undoubtedly one of the best known television personalities, Don Francisco is no less famous for his numerous philanthropic accomplishments, using his unquestionable talent as a communicator to benefit the world’s children. His annual telethon for handicapped children has raised more than US$165 million and constructed six hospitals in Chile.
In 2000, he was elected National Vice President of the United States Muscular Dystrophy Association, and was named by the Pan-American Health Organization as a Champion of Health of the Americas in recognition of his contributions.
