Name: Fermin Gallo
Age: 8 years old
Country: Uruguay
Diagnosis: Atrial Septal Defect (ASD)
Fermin was diagnosed with Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), a hole in the septum or the wall between the atria and the upper chambers of the heart, at the age of 6.  The Gallo family soon sought the help of the International Kids Fund in order to help save the life of their little boy.  Fermin’s only hope is to receive much needed surgery and treatment, but his family has exhausted all their resources and they need your help. The Gallo family is asking for your support in their time of need, so that Fermin can have a second chance at life.  You can make this happen! Click here to make a donation

IKF SUCCESS STORY
Name: Guadalupe Torres
Age: 10 years old
Country: Peru
Diagnosis: Thyroid Cancer

At the tender age of eight, Guadalupe Torres was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.  After undergoing surgery to remove her thyroid, both her vocal chords were paralyzed as a complication of the surgery.  She lost all ability to speak and could breathe only through a tracheostomy, a hole in her neck. Your donations made possible the surgery Guadalupe so desperatley needed in order to breathe normally again. This vibrant 10-year old is now back in Peru, happy to breathe without the tube, and happy to play basketball, her favorite sport, without stopping to gasp for air. She sends her love and gratitude for all who helped to so dramatically change her life.

MARLINS GO TO BAT FOR IKF KIDS

The Florida Marlins showed they are Champions off the field as well as on with their February 11 visit to IKF kids undergoing treatment in Holtz Children’s Hospital. Like the superstars they are, Marlin’s third baseman Mike Lowell and pitcher Guillermo Mota took time to visit with each child, posing for photos and patiently signing autographs for the excited children. Mascot “Billy the Marlin” and two Marlin’s Mermaids were on hand to dispense Marlin gear and good will. The Marlin’s visit also marks the beginning of an ongoing program linking Major League Baseball with IKF. Throughout the upcoming baseball season, players from other Major League Clubs, as well as the Marlins, will visit Holtz Children’s Hospital and IKF children when their teams are in Miami to play against the Marlins. Hats off to these “Heroes” who so selflessly give their time to brighten the lives of our children. Note: The Marlin’s visit to IKF Kids did not go unnoticed by the Media. Almost every TV station in town turned out with cameras rolling. Our children and our organization were spotlighted on the evening news, thanks to our hard-working PR firm, EDF Communications.

CHAMPIONS FOR KIDS:
Gina and Ginette Eugene
Gina and Ginette Eugene are much more than Haitian activists; they are nurses with wings trying to save the children of Haiti. While traveling their home country and seeing the multiple needs of these children, they decided to do something about it. They procured visas and paid for airline tickets out of their own pockets and came to IKF in search of urgently needed help for Hans Roldino Joseph, the first child they brought to the U.S. , but Hans was only the first child, as three more have followed. They are, by far, an excellent example of generosity and commitment to that old phrase that says “children are the future of the world.” One key element to that future is a healthy body and they are doing their very best to provide that for the children of Haiti, one child at a time. Working together makes everything possible.
