| Age: 10 years old / 10 años |
| Country: Jamaica |
| Diagnosis: Retinoblastoma & Osteosarcoma |
| Estimated Cost: $100,000.00 |

Shortly after birth, Jhordann was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma, a malignant tumor that attacks the eye retina. Doctors in Jamaica were poised to remove both of Jhordann's eyes, but her mother chose to bring her to Miami for radiation treatments. For the past ten years, Jhordann has traveled to Miami for yearly radiation treatments. She was responding well to the treatments until she developed a new and very aggresive bone cancer, Osteosarcoma. In a delicate, 15-hour surgery in May, doctors removed Jhordann's eye along with some facial tissue. She now needs urgent follow-up treatment and chemotherapy. Immediate funds are required to keep this happy, cheerful 10-year old alive. |

| ROTARY GIFT OF LIFE OF FLORIDA TEAMS UP WITH IKF |
Thanks to the collaboration of Dr. Eliot Rosenkranz Director of Congenital Heart Surgery at UM/Jackson Memorial Medical Center and Lou Auricchio, Chairman of Rotary Gift of Life of Florida, more IKF children will receive lifesaving heart surgery. We’re off to a good start--the first child to enter the program has already received initial surgery through the IKF/Gift of Life partnership. Nine-month old Shivan Jhagroo from Trinidad & Tobago was diagnosed shortly after birth with Tetralogy of Fallot, a hole in the valves of the heart. Shivan’s hopes for survival are significantly improved, thanks to the generosity of the Rotary Gift of Life of Florida, IKF and the UM/Jackson Memorial Medical Center. |

| PARENTS RAISE FUNDS THROUGH ART SHOW |
Néstor Raúl Cubillos, artist and father of IKF child Néstor Jr, recently staged a highly successful Art Exhibit in the lobby of the Ecuadorian Consulate to raise funds for his son. Young Néstor is currently undergoing chemotherapy for cancer at Holtz Children’s Hospital. Néstor Raúl Cubillos is a perfect example of the many IKF parents who are proactive, hardworking and creative in their efforts to raise money for their children. Parent involvement is an essential component of our program. Parents not only serve as office volunteers and spokespersons for the media, but also take the initiative on special activities that generate additional, and much needed, funds. The art exposition yielded approximately $5,000 for little Néstor. Leonardo Tamáriz, General Consul for Ecuador won the raffle of a painting by Cubillos. |

| BRAVO FOR MERRILL LYNCH EMPLOYEES |
As part of their commitment to “Responsable Citizenship”, a group of employees at the Merrill Lynch Miami International Office on Brickell decided to become an integral part of the International Kids Fund, organizing a committee to raise funds among their fellow employees for the treatment of an IKF sponsored child. Over a period of two weeks they raised enough funds to cover the cost of surgery for Alexander Moran. Alexander was brought to Holtz Children’s Hospital at the age of two. He was diagnosed with Tethered Spinal Cord Syndrome, a birth defect that causes muscle imbalance and affects a person’s ability to walk. This surgery will have a tremendous impact on the quality of Alexander’s life. His mother’s tears of happiness when she found out that her son’s surgery was being funded are the best thanks for the kindness and hard work of this group of Merrill Lynch employees.
The committee will continue to raise funds to provide life-saving or life-changing treatment to children from Latin America. One of the programmed events will be a monthly luncheon helping raise a steady stream of funds for children in need of medical treatment. Bravo! |

| IKF SUCCESS STORY |
 |
| Name: Daniella Mohammed |
| Age: 1 month / 1 Mes |
| Country: Trinidad & Tobago |
| Diagnosis: Pulmonary Value Stenosis |
| Estimated Cost: $21,000.00 |
|
|
|
Daniella was diagnosed with Pulmonary Valve Stenosis two weeks after birth. Because the surgery required to save her life was not available in her country, Daniella’s parents had Daniella escorted into the US by a physician and met at the Miami Airport by her aunt, as they were not able to secure visas. Daniella underwent delicate, life-saving emergency surgery at Holtz and is now back in Trinidad where her progress is being monitored closely. Thanks to the generous response of this community to our media appeal and Daniel J. Fitzgerald who donated $22,000.00, Daniella’s cost of treatment has been
covered. |
