| At our November board meeting, Juan N. Cento, Chairman of IKF’s Executive Board since the organization’s founding, passed the IKF gavel to incoming Chairperson, Rosy Cancela. Remarking that it was “the passion” he saw in everyone in the program that inspired him to become involved, Juan said he was “proud to be passing the gavel to Rosy.” Juan’s own passion, dedication and vision played a significant role in shaping IKF. Rosy pointed out that Juan had built “a strong foundation” upon which she and the board can continue to add. Thank you Juan, for all you’ve accomplished! Welcome, Rosy! |

DECEMBER'S FEATURED CHILD
This lovely child suffers from Retinoblastoma, a rare cancer of the eye that when left untreated, can be fatal. The only option for Fawziyah in her homeland, Trinidad & Tobago, was to remove both eyes. Her parents opted to bring her to the US for further diagnosis and treatment. The doctors at Holtz Children’s Hospital determined that with surgery and treatment, the chances for a recovery were 98% and one eye could be saved. Sadly, Fawziyah’s parents have no money to pay for the life-saving treatments. Bringing their daughter to Miami depleted their resources. Your help is desperately needed. A contribution now will give Fawziyah a chance for life, and partial sight. |

“HEROS OF HOPE”, OUR NEW MONTHLY GIVING PROGRAM, OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED
 |
With the first mailing for IKF’s new monthly giving campaign, Heroes of Hope, out the door, excitement and expectations are high. This is a new and easy way for everyone in the community to participate in our lifesaving work. We anticipate an overwhelming response. You can become an IKF Hero of Hope and help save young lives by signing up to give monthly, whatever amount is comfortable and affordable. Whether $10 or $1 million, every penny is important when lives hang in the balance. You can choose to have your Monthly Giving funds assigned to the general fund or to the account of a specific child or group of children. Funds can even be earmarked to help children from a specific country. Donations are deducted from your credit card each month and are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Your invitation to join IKF’s Monthly Giving Plan should have arrived by now. You can also join or learn more about this new program by calling the IKF office at 1-877-IKF-KIDS.

ALEXANDRA DE LA HOZ, HAPPY AND DOING WELL!
Thanks to the generosity of the employees at Merrill Lynch International Office on Brickell, 14 year old Alexandra will be going home, following surgery at Holtz Children’s Hospital. There, she was be treated to correct a heart defect that would send her heart beating at over 200 beats a minute, having more than one crisis when her heart would go to over 300 beats a minute. Alexandra speaks of the relief of being able to do the things that normal children do, without being afraid of fainting. Her parents are overjoyed to know that their child will live, and send their gratitude and love to everyone who helped in their moment of need. Alexandra is the second child sponsored by this highly committed group of employees. The first child sponsored was Alexander Moran from the Dominican Republic, whose family has developed a very close and grateful relationship with them. These Merrill Lynch employees have certainly set an example of “charity in action” |

| PARTNERS FOR KIDS: |
ViVA Partnership, Inc.
As a US Hispanic marketing expert, Linda Lane Gonzalez, CEO and founder of ViVA Partnership, advises clients to focus on winning “share of heart” before going after share of market. When IKF kids won a big share of Linda’s heart three years ago, she and her creative teams were immediately committed to helping the program grow. ViVA’s creative teams developed IKF’s first advertising campaign in 2002, and most recently completed the creative work, in English and Spanish, for IKF’s new Monthly Giving Program, Heroes of Hope. “ViVA’s work on behalf of IKF is 100% from the heart,” says Linda, a member of IKF’s Board of Directors. As an IKF Partner for Kids, ViVA is making its own positive impact, helping to save children’s lives. Partners for Kids include media organizations, professional service firms and other companies who donate their time, products or in-kind services to help IKF. |
